However, there are things you can do in order to prevent this from happening. As a matter of fact, we are going to provide you with several pieces of advice. We are going to mention some of the things people forget during a move. If you have this on your mind through the relocation process, it will probably not happen to you!

Pay special attention to your important documents

The very first thing you should bear in mind is not to forget to bring all of your important documents with you. In order to do this task successfully, get a binder, and make a list of documents you should put inside. Some of them are the following:

  • personal documents- birth certificates, passports, IDs, marriage certificates, diplomas, drivers licenses, professional qualifications;
  • house documents- rental agreements, property deeds, mortgage documents, insurance policies;
  • employment documents- evaluation reports, work contracts;
  • car documents- insurance policies, vehicle registration;
  • financial documents- tax receipts, bank statements;
  • your children’s documents- school records, medical records;
  • other important documents.

While you are getting all of them together, make sure they are in one place. Once your relocation starts, this binder should be with you at all times. You can feel free to put in in your essentials bag since this will be the box you will carry with you on the day of the move.

One of the things people forget during a move are also medicines

The main reason why people often forget to pack their medicines is that they are usually put in cabinets. If it happens that you are moving in a hurry, make sure you check even these places. In case there is a great number of them, it is advisable to check them before packing. It is possible that they are past their expiration date or that you have stopped using them. If you find medicines of this kind in your cabinet, feel free to throw them away. Make sure first that all of the medicines you and your family member use currently are packed. You can have your global international movers help you complete other tasks. In this way, you will have more time for these, personal tasks.

Valuable items are also on the list

This may come as a surprise, but it has happened a lot of times. Of course, people do not forget those valuables that are right in front of their noses. However, there are always those you put in a certain drawer or cabinet and leave them ‘for later’. In a great number of cases, people forget about these items. So, when making a moving checklist, ask yourself whether there are any items you have hidden.

If there are, get them out of their current place and put them in an essentials box. You can cover them with your clothing items and no one will be able to see them. Do not put items like these in boxes that your movers are going to transport even though you have international moving insurance. It is much safer to have them with you and you will surely be more relaxed.

Items you have left at the dry cleaner’s

Yet another thing to pay attention to is to think about whether all of your items are in your home. If you have some clothes at the dry cleaner’s but you have left them there a long time ago, you can easily forget to pick them up and pack them. This can happen very easily because your mind will be preoccupied with other tasks. In addition to this, people usually drop off clothes at the dry cleaner’s that are either out of season or that are used on special occasions. So, in order to avoid making this kind of mistake, think thoroughly. Make an extra effort if you are relocating to another country. For example, if you are moving to Portugal from the US you will not have a chance to come back and get your clothes.

Disposable cutlery and paper plates

The last on the list of things people forget during a move are disposable plates, cups, and cutlery. The reason why these are important is that you will have decent meals until you unpack your regular cutlery. Disposable cutlery is quite handy because there will be nothing for you to wash. For example, you will feel free to order some pizza, use the paper plates and cups and you will simply throw them away.

Using paper plates will make your moving day much easier- remember to pack them

They are also great if you have a long way to go to get to your new home. Your moving day can be quite long, but this does not mean that it should not be even more stressful. You will avoid making a mess in your car and, at the same time, you will not be either thirsty or hungry.

Preparing for your relocation is a very complex process. First of all, you should think about what tasks you should complete. After that, you start completing them but it can always happen that you forget to do something. Because of this, we have made a list of things people forget during a move. Learn from their experience and avoid making the same mistakes. The best way in which you can make sure you are going to complete a certain task is to add it to your moving checklist.
