Preparing a checklist is one of the most important things when moving overseas. However, no one guarantees that your checklist will contain everything you need. And things you forget after moving overseas can prove to be exactly the things you will need after you arrive. Global international movers have seen a lot of situations where people forget some very important things. If you do not want that to happen to you, the following lines should remind you about some important things that are easy to forget.

There are many things you need to think about so it is easy to forget some of the less important items

Overseas relocation is a complicated process that requires a lot of preparation and thinking. You need to think about important paperwork, finding international moving services, a job, a new home, a school for your kids, and more. Therefore, it is easy to forget some less important things. Luckily, you are aware of this situation and you are already trying to identify items that you probably forgot to pack. Of course, it is not possible to name all items that someone might need after moving overseas. Still, we will try to give you some of the most common examples.

Make sure that you have some cash in your wallet

One of the most important things that you might forget after moving overseas is cash. And it can be very difficult to find out that you do not have any cash once you are already in a new country. Because it can be very difficult to go to a bank and get some money on the first day you arrive, it is very important to prepare some cash that you will have with you on your first day. Of course, if you are moving to Portugal from US, you can have some trouble with currencies. Still, it is much easier to find an exchange office on the street than to find a bank, setup your account, and everything. Therefore, the first thing you need to make sure that you have prepared enough cash to get through the first few days in a new country.

If you want to have your devices charged, prepare a power strip

Another thing that is easy to forget about after relocating overseas is a power strip.  Many places have limited numbers of power outlets and it can be very difficult to power your devices if you are not prepared well. However, if you are moving to Europe, for example, you need to be aware of the different voltages. In the US appliances run on 110 volts, while European run on 220 volts. So you need to make sure that your power strip has a switch that can allow you to change that accordingly. Or you might find that your power strip has 110 to 220 voltage printed on it. Either one will do.

If you want to have internet access after you arrive, think about it while you are still in the US

Internet access is one of the most important things these days. That is why you need to make sure that you will have access to the web once you arrive. Of course, chances are that you will have Wi-Fi in the place where you will be staying. However, you shouldn’t rely on this. Especially if the internet is important for your work. Therefore, you need to ensure that you will have unlimited access wherever you are. So before you go, call your mobile provider and see what they can offer. You will probably have to pay for a special package or to buy another SIM card.

Prepare some clean towels and sheets in your essential bag

One of the surprising things that people forget after relocating internationally is clean sheets and towels. Of course, your packing services will probably pack your bedding for the move. However, if they pack them with the rest of your belongings it might take weeks until they arrive. And you cannot wait that long to take a shower or rest on your clean sheets. Of course, you can buy new sheets after arrival. But why would you spend money if you can pack a few towels and clean sheets in your essential bag?

Prepare a hand sanitizer if you want to maintain your hygiene while traveling

Even though the recent pandemic has thought us about the importance of hygiene, some people still forget about this while packing. And it can be very unpleasant if you realize that you have nothing to disinfect your hands on an airport, for example. Luckily there are many good solutions for dry hand sterilization. You just need to remember to carry enough with you.

Who knows what can happen during a long overseas relocation. Therefore prepare a first aid kit

Many things can happen during an overseas relocation. Therefore, it is very important to have a first aid kit with you at all times.  Small bandages, band-aid, alcohol, and such can be very helpful if you or some of the people who are traveling with you get injured. So make sure that you have a small first aid kit with you in your essential travel bag.

If you are moving with your kids, do not forget about their favorite toys

There are also many things that you might forget when moving overseas with your kids. Besides, food, drinks, and wet towels, you also shouldn’t forget about toys. Overseas relocation is a tiring process, and your kids will surely get nervous at one point. Of course, the easiest way to calm them down is to give them their favorite toy.

Now you are ready for the road

Those are some of the most common things that you might forget after moving overseas. Hopefully, after reading this article, your essential bag will be loaded with everything that you might need during the trip and on the first day you arrive.
